Teen Thrive: Dubai’s New Workshop Prepares Young Minds for Life’s Challenges Through Aviation Simulation

In a city known for its ambition and fast pace, teenagers face pressures unlike any previous generation. Academic expectations, social media scrutiny, and the ever-present demands of extracurriculars leave many young people struggling to manage stress, confidence, and resilience.
Addressing this urgent need, Dubai-based professional basketball player and mental performance coach Jazz Ferguson has launched Teen Thrive, a revolutionary workshop series that combines aviation simulation with elite mindset coaching to empower teens to navigate life’s challenges with confidence.
Designed for young people aged 11 to 17, Teen Thrive is more than a typical seminar on resilience or confidence. It’s a full-day, hands-on experience where teenagers are put in controlled, high-stakes scenarios that mirror real-life pressures, but in a safe, supportive environment.
The workshops take place at the Dynamics Advanced Training Centre, near Al Maktoum International Airport, home to a full-motion wide-body cabin simulator that can recreate the sensations of both normal and abnormal flights.
The day begins with an aviation simulation, an immersive experience where teens are presented with a series of challenges that demand teamwork, communication, decision-making, leadership, and emotional control. Whether managing unexpected turbulence, system failures, or complex operational decisions, participants must think on their feet, collaborate, and adapt – all while under the gentle pressure of a simulated high-stakes environment.
Following the simulation, a structured debrief led by aviation experts helps participants reflect on their decisions. Teens are encouraged to analyse their strengths, acknowledge areas for growth, and recognise how their choices influence outcomes. Crucially, the debrief bridges the gap between aviation and everyday life, helping participants apply lessons from the simulator to school projects, sports, family life, and social interactions.
The final segment of the day is an energetic, interactive coaching session led by Jazz Ferguson himself. Drawing on his experiences as a professional athlete, Jazz focuses on building what he calls the “athlete’s mindset”: resilience, focus, accountability and confidence. Through movement, storytelling, team challenges, and discussion, teens explore how these principles can be applied to their daily lives, helping them develop practical tools for managing pressure, staying motivated, and overcoming setbacks.

“Teenagers don’t build confidence by being told what to do,” Jazz explains. “They grow by being placed in situations where they have to think, communicate, and adapt at their own pace. Teen Thrive gives them a safe but challenging space to experience pressure, make decisions, learn from mistakes, and realise they’re capable of far more than they think.”
For parents, Teen Thrive offers not just a workshop for their children, but a glimpse into how young people can cultivate emotional intelligence, leadership skills, and resilience, traits that extend far beyond the classroom.
Wessam Elkhouly, Executive Director at Ultimate Value Consultancy, who collaborated on the program, emphasises its wider importance: “Education and resources alone are not enough to prepare young people for today’s rapidly changing world. True empowerment comes from shaping an agile, resilient, and mentally strong mindset that enables them to adapt, lead, and thrive under pressure.”
This dual approach, hands-on challenges followed by expert coaching, sets Teen Thrive apart from conventional teen programs. By combining high-tech aviation simulation with sports psychology and leadership principles, it offers a dynamic and memorable way for teens to discover their potential.
Unlike lectures or classroom exercises, the program encourages active participation, problem-solving under pressure, and reflection, all proven ways to build confidence and resilience in adolescents.
For teens navigating the complexities of modern adolescence, Teen Thrive promises a day of challenge, discovery, and empowerment. It’s a workshop where the sky isn’t the limit, it’s the classroom. Under the guidance of Jazz Ferguson and aviation and corporate experts, young participants leave with far more than memories of an exciting day; they leave with tools to thrive in every aspect of life.
In a world where resilience and adaptability are more important than ever, Teen Thrive is shaping the next generation of confident, capable, and mentally strong young leaders, one simulated flight at a time.
The inaugural Teen Thrive workshop will take place on Saturday, 14th February, from 10:00am to 4:00pm, with parents welcome to attend.
